Member Accounts Protected by NCUA

Northern Federal Credit Union is insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a federal government agency that charters and supervises credit unions. NCUA operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund.

Share insurance provides all members with $250,000 in coverage for their individual accounts, including regular share savings, checking, money market accounts and share certificates. If you have balances totaling $250,000 or less at Northern FCU, you have full coverage. If you have more than $250,000 at Northern, there are several options for additional coverage through other types of accounts.

Joint Accounts

Joint account holders each receive $250,000 for their interest in the account. For example, a two-person joint account has $500,000 in coverage. This coverage is separate from and in addition to coverage for other individual or retirement accounts.

Retirement Accounts

Legislation in 2006 changed the limits on coverage for retirement accounts. Traditional and Roth IRAs, and KEOGH retirement accounts are all insured for up to $250,000 and are separate from other account coverage. If a member has a regular share savings and an IRA, the share savings is insured up to $250,000 and the IRA is insured up to $250,000.

As a Northern FCU member you can rest assured that the credit union is not experiencing the financial woes seen lately at many large for-profit banks and mortgage companies. Northern FCU has been cautious in our lending and investment practices to ensure we remain financially secure for our members.

Routing Number Change Deadline

If you are still using checks encoded with our old routing number of 091901480, you must contact us immediately so that we may order checks for you with our new routing number, 221380936. As of October 31, 2008, checks encoded with the old routing number will no longer clear your account and will be returned unpaid.

In addition, any electronic deposits or payments processed with the old routing number (091901480) will no longer be accepted and will be returned after November 30, 2008.

These types of items can include payroll and government benefit deposits*, preauthorized payments through a company or financial institution, and payments made on the internet or over the telephone. Please contact the Account Solutions at 315 -779-3130 if you have any questions about these types of items and are unsure of which routing number is currently being used.

* Please note that all deposits sent by employers who are listed on our Select Employer Group are already processing with the new routing number. No changes will be required for these types of items.

Drawing Rules:

Weekly drawings for $50 gas cards will be held each Friday in weeks September 29th through November 3rd. Prizes may be claimed in-person at the credit union lobby during normal business hours. All license numbers will be collected for the final $500 grand prize drawing to be held on November 6th, 2008. One winner per household. No purchase is necessary to win.
